The Company's primary business involves the ownership of utilities that provide water and wastewater services to residential, commercial, industrial, public authority, fire service and sale for resale customers. It also operates other businesses that provide water and wastewater services to the United States government on military installations, as well as municipalities. The Company operates its business through the Regulated Businesses segment. The Regulated Businesses segment includes subsidiaries that provide water and wastewater services to customers in approximately 14 states. The Company's utilities operate in states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The Company also serves commercial customers, fire service customers, industrial customers, public authorities, other utilities and community water and wastewater systems.

The Regulated Water segment consists of eight operating segments representing its water and wastewater regulated utility companies, which are organized by the states where the Company provides water and wastewater services. The Regulated Natural Gas segment consists of one operating segment representing natural gas utility companies for which the Company provides natural gas distribution services. It provides services in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey, Indiana, Virginia, and Kentucky under the Aqua and Peoples brands. The Company also operates market-based activities, conducted through its non-regulated subsidiaries, that provide utility service line protection solutions and repair services to households and gas marketing and production activities.

California Water Service Group is a holding company that provides water utility and other related services in California, Washington, New Mexico, Hawaii and Texas through its subsidiaries. Its business is conducted through its operating subsidiaries and provides utility services. Its business consists of the production, purchase, storage, treatment, testing, distribution, and sale of water for domestic, industrial, public, and irrigation uses, and the provision of domestic and municipal fire protection services. It provides wastewater collection and treatment services, including treatment which allows water recycling. It also provides non-regulated water-related services under agreements with municipalities and other private companies. The non-regulated services include full water system operation, meter reading, and billing services. Non-regulated operations also include the lease of communication antenna sites, lab services and promotion of other non-regulated services.

American States Water Company is a holding company. The Company’s segments include water, electric and contracted services. Within the segments, The Company has three principal business units: water and electric service utility operations conducted through its regulated utilities, Golden State Water Company (GSWC) and Bear Valley Electric Service, Inc. (BVES), respectively, and contracted services conducted through American States Utility Services, Inc. (ASUS) and its subsidiaries. GSWC is a public water utility engaged in the purchase, production, distribution and sale of water in 10 counties in the state of California. BVES is a public electric utility that distributes electricity in several San Bernardino County Mountain communities in California. ASUS operates, maintains and performs construction activities (including renewal and replacement capital work) on water and/or wastewater systems at various United States military bases.

(CTWS) (and its wholly owned subsidiaries, The Connecticut Water Company (CWC), The Maine Water Company (MWC), Chester Realty, Inc. and New England Water Utility Services, Inc. (NEWUS)). SJWTX Holdings, Inc. is the holding company for SJWTX, Inc., doing business as The Texas Water Company (TWC), Texas Water Operation Services, LLC (TWOS) and Texas Water Resources, LLC (TWR). The Company, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, primarily provides water utility and other related services in California, Connecticut, Maine and Texas. SJW Group has business in property management and real estate investment activity conducted by SJW Land Company and Chester Realty, Inc.
